Le Bois Dormant offers a special kind of holiday. This beautiful parc, located in one of the best seaside resorts of the Vendee, offers both a relaxing retreat together with a lively break.

Le Bois Dormant offers a special kind of holiday. This beautiful parc, located in one of the best seaside resorts of the Vendée, offers both a relaxing retreat together with a lively break.

Le Bois Dormant feels spacious and well-thought out. The holiday homes are spaced out across the parc, but not too far away from the hub of activity around the pool and restaurant area. The outdoor pool complex offers something for everyone, from a main swimming pool, to waterslides, a toddler splash pool and even a spa bath.

The bar and restaurant terrace offer lovely views over the pool if you want to stop for a quick snack - the pizza's come highly recommended! Away from the pool is an outstanding sports complex, together with a multi-sports pitch where the youngsters can be kept entertained with regular football and basketball tournaments.

If you're in search of evening entertainment, then head over to siblu parc Le Bois Masson, situated just across the road, and make the most of their full programme of events.

Local Area

St Jean-de-Monts
A beautiful sandy beach, which the locals consider one of the most stunning in France (if not the world). If you can wrench yourself and the family from your favourite spot on the sand, it also has great watersports. Or if you or your children fancy yourselves as the next Jamie Oliver, then hot-foot it to the Saturday morning market a couple of miles away for superb fresh produce.

St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie
Famed for its fresh sardines. Look for the vintage ones (sardines millésimées) which are supposed to be laid down like fine wine! Even the canned variety are treated with respect. For children with short attention spans there is a tiny museum, the Maison du Pêcheur, which used to be a fisherman’s cottage (approx 10 miles).

Island life
Escape the mainland for a short time to admire the small island of Noirmoutier. Give your children a taste of the past with the old-fashioned bathing huts or they can relax on the unspoilt beaches (Bois de La Chaize is the prettiest), clamber around the ruins of the 7th century monastery or get wet at the Oceanile waterpark (approx 15 miles).

Lazing by the lake
Apremont, half an hours drive away, is a pretty village with a medieval castle, a large lake and a sandy beach. You can hire pedalos, flat-bottomed boats and canoes to paddle leisurely around the lake. Once you’ve worked up an appetite you can justify trying out the bar and restaurant which have stunning views over the lake.
